Abstract

This chapter delves into the ethical concerns of aviation professionals regarding AI-based systems, highlighting the main motives behind their non-acceptance. Through an exploratory study, it examines eight scenarios where AI interacts with human roles in aviation, focusing on areas such as physiological data monitoring, pilot support, maintenance, crew allocation, and speech recognition. The study reveals that professionals have significant concerns about the impact of AI on human roles, data privacy, and aviation safety. Key findings include the need for human oversight, transparency in AI systems, and the potential for AI to de-skill professionals. The chapter concludes that while AI has the potential to enhance aviation operations, addressing these ethical concerns is crucial for its successful integration. Professionals will gain insights into the ethical dilemmas posed by AI in aviation and the importance of ensuring that AI systems are designed and implemented with a strong ethical framework.
