Abstract

The study investigates the use of eugenol-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (eugenol-MSN) to improve the sensitivity of cisplatin against AGS human gastric adenocarcinoma cells. Eugenol, a natural compound, is shown to potentiate the cytotoxic effect of cisplatin, with eugenol-MSN being more effective than free eugenol. The combination of eugenol-MSN and cisplatin results in enhanced survival inhibition, migration suppression, and apoptosis induction compared to single treatments. The nanoparticles are synthesized and characterized for their drug release properties and biocompatibility. The study also explores the antioxidant properties of eugenol and its effects on superoxide dismutase activity, providing a comprehensive analysis of the potential therapeutic benefits of this novel approach in gastric cancer treatment.
