Excerpt

The future of Europe's automotive industry hangs in the balance due to political manipulation under the guise of climate protection. The principle of technology neutrality has been ignored, leading to a disproportionate focus on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the neglect of other technologies. The article argues that this approach is not only distorting the market but also putting Europe's technological leadership at risk. It further highlights the hypocrisy of considering BEVs CO2-free despite significant emissions from production and operation. The author warns that this path could result in the loss of a core competency for Europe and a flood of cheaper vehicles from Asia. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for a more balanced approach, prioritizing the reduction of CO2 emissions in the electricity industry before fully embracing electromobility.
