Evaluating the Effectiveness of Generative AI in TRIZ: A Comparative Case Study

Abstract

The chapter delves into the evolution of the TRIZ methodology and the increasing role of artificial intelligence in innovation management. It presents a comparative case study where generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, is used to solve a real-world problem in the healthcare industry. The study compares the solutions generated by AI with those from traditional TRIZ methods, assessing their similarity, depth, and breadth. The results indicate that while AI cannot replace human creativity entirely, it can significantly accelerate the idea generation process and provide valuable preliminary conceptual directions. The chapter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using AI in TRIZ, concluding that a hybrid approach combining AI and human expertise is most effective. The study also highlights the potential of AI in technology forecasting, patent circumvention, and innovation portfolio analysis.
