Abstract

The article delves into the evaluation of exciting force and moment by a vertical floating cylinder in a two-layer fluid system with a coaxial cylindrical obstacle. It highlights the importance of considering density stratification in water for accurate predictions of hydrodynamic loads on offshore structures. The study employs potential theory and separation of variables to solve the problem, resulting in analytical expressions for surge, heave exciting forces, and moment acting on both cylinders in surface and internal wave modes. The numerical results show significant effects of draft and depth ratios on hydrodynamic forces and moments, providing valuable insights for engineers and researchers in designing effective devices for energy transfer in two-layer fluid flows.
