Abstract

The chapter focuses on the evaluation of fiber orientation in Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) members using X-ray micro-CT, a cutting-edge imaging technique. The study aims to understand the influence of fiber orientation on the strength of UHPC members, particularly in the context of flexural capacity. The authors conducted nonlinear finite element method (FEM) analysis to examine the relationship between flexural strength and tension-softening curves, which were estimated from fiber observation data. The research involved creating UHPC beam specimens with axial rebars and conducting four-point bending tests to measure load and displacement. Notably, the study compares the results of loading tests with those from nonlinear FEM analysis, both with and without tension-softening curves, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors affecting the flexural capacity of UHPC members. The chapter also highlights the potential of X-ray micro-CT in estimating tension-softening curves and its implications for the design and analysis of UHPC structures.
