Abstract

This chapter delves into the evaluation of a novel in-shoe strain gauge device designed for gait analysis. The device, which integrates four strain gauges within 3D-printed shoe mounts, measures vertical ground reaction forces (vGRF) during walking, offering a portable and cost-effective alternative to traditional force plates. The study explores the device's design, calibration, and data processing techniques, including the use of a Butterworth filter for noise reduction and normalization for comparability. The chapter also compares the device's data with the GaitRec dataset, demonstrating high accuracy and reliability. Additionally, the device's comfort and ease of use are assessed through participant surveys. The results suggest that the in-shoe sensor device is a promising tool for gait analysis, with potential applications in clinical and research settings. The chapter concludes by highlighting the device's advantages, such as its portability, affordability, and real-time data collection capabilities, making it a valuable addition to existing gait analysis methods.
