Abstract

This chapter delves into the evaluation of tensile stress and strain capacity of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) using the University of Michigan (UM) method. The study highlights the limitations of conventional uniaxial tensile tests and introduces the UM method as a simplified, robust alternative. Through four-point bending tests (FPBT), the research constructs master curves that correlate structural element properties with material tensile capacities. The chapter presents detailed experimental procedures, including material mix proportions, testing setups, and data analysis methods. Key findings include the successful transformation of load-deflection data into tensile strength and strain capacities, with results validated against other methods like Heriot-Watt University (HWU) and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) methods. The study concludes that the UM method offers a streamlined approach for on-site quality control, providing accurate and efficient evaluation of ECC's tensile properties. Professionals will gain insights into the practical application of the UM method, its comparative advantages, and its potential to enhance the adoption of ECC in real-world projects.
