Abstract

This chapter delves into the transformation of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) into WSN-IoT, highlighting the architectural differences and integration challenges. It begins with the evolution of WSN and IoT, tracing their origins and technological advancements. The chapter then explores the layered architecture of WSN and sensor node design, followed by a detailed comparison with the IoT architecture. It identifies key challenges such as security, interoperability, topology management, and data unavailability, offering innovative solutions to each. The integration approaches, including front-end proxy, gateway, and TCP/IP overlay, are discussed, providing a roadmap for seamless WSN-IoT integration. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the future potential of WSN-IoT and the role of machine learning in enhancing its effectiveness.
