In Hungary the hydrological data collection is performed by twelve District Environmental Protection and Water Authorities (DEPWA) functioning under the supervision of the National Environmental Protection and Water Authority. The flow measurements are carried out according to a centrally developed time schedule. This plan is also coordinated with the neighbouring countries. In the case of extreme (low or high) flow situations, additional measurements could be organised. The flood discharge measurement series supply very important input information for the flood forecasting models. The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) technique increases the accuracy of the results and the number of measurements in time and space. Last but not least, the cost of the flow measurements could be reduced, too.
