Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of enhancing the bearing capacity of shallow foundations on loose soil through the implementation of geotextiles. By employing a combination of experimental and numerical analysis, the study aims to provide a robust understanding of how geotextiles can mitigate structural damage such as settlement, cracks, and collapse. The experimental setup involves a 5.0-ton hydraulic screw jack and various transducers to measure load and displacement, while the numerical analysis is conducted using PLAXIS 2D software. The research focuses on optimizing the depth of the reinforcing zone, spacing between reinforcement layers, width of reinforcements, and the number of reinforcement layers. The findings highlight the significant improvement in soil bearing capacity, with values up to 2.3 times higher than unreinforced conditions. The study concludes with recommendations for optimal reinforcement strategies, emphasizing the practical benefits of geotextile implementation in civil engineering projects.
