Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Forming Zone in Dieless Wire Drawing Process of Thin Biometallic Wires

Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricacies of dieless wire drawing, a process crucial for producing thin biodegradable wires. It investigates the forming zone, which is critical for the material's deformation during drawing. The study highlights the sensitivity of the process to parameters such as temperature and speed, and how these influence the stability and feasibility of the drawing process. Experimental data and FEM simulations are used to understand the material-dependent forming zone and its length, revealing significant differences between Mg- and Zn-based wires. The research emphasizes the importance of localized heating and the establishment of a steady-state process for successful wire drawing, offering valuable insights into optimizing the process for various alloys.
