Abstract

This chapter delves into the experimental assessment of controlled rocking masonry walls with energy dissipation accessible in a steel base (EASt-CRMWs). The study focuses on the lateral behavior of these walls, their construction process, and the results of snap-back and quasi-static testing. Key findings include the walls' exceptional self-centering capability, minimal damage, and substantial drift capacity. The use of externally mounted energy dissipation devices and a steel base to enhance stiffness and strength are highlighted as innovative features. The study also provides detailed insights into the construction process and testing methodologies, making it a comprehensive resource for professionals in the field. The results demonstrate that the combination of gravity loads and supplementary energy dissipation devices can maintain high performance in terms of self-centering ability and minimal damage, even under significant seismic events.
