Abstract

The study examines the effects of dry-wet cycling on the fracture behavior of jointed sandstone. Through experimental investigations, the authors demonstrate that dry-wet cycling weakens the rock's mechanical properties, reduces the crack initiation stress level, and alters the local deformation characteristics. The research also establishes a fracture criterion considering the deterioration effects of dry-wet cycling, providing valuable insights into the failure mechanisms of jointed rock under varying moisture conditions. The findings have significant implications for understanding and predicting rock failure in reservoir areas and other geotechnical applications.
