Abstract

The article presents an experimental and numerical study on the hydromechanical behavior of basalt, a common brittle rock used in hydropower projects and radioactive waste disposal. The research involves triaxial mechanical tests to simulate geological loading paths and analyze the stress-strain relationship, deformation properties, and failure behavior of basalt under different confining and pore pressures. The study also develops an elastoplastic constitutive model using return mapping algorithms to predict the hydromechanical response of basalt, validating the model through comparisons with experimental data. The findings have significant implications for engineering design and safety evaluations in hydropower projects and geological barriers for radioactive waste.
