Abstract

This chapter delves into the mechanical properties of lightweight concrete (LWC) incorporating lightweight expanded clay aggregates (LECA) when exposed to fire. The study focuses on the compressive, split tensile, and flexural strengths of LWC compared to normal weight concrete (NWC) under varying temperatures. Key findings reveal that LWC, particularly with LECA, exhibits superior fire resistance and retains more of its mechanical properties under high temperatures. The research highlights the potential of LECA in reducing structural weight and improving fire resilience, making it a valuable material for modern construction. The chapter also discusses the impact of temperature on the density and strength of different concrete mixes, providing insights into their performance and durability under extreme conditions. These findings are crucial for engineers and researchers looking to optimize concrete mixes for enhanced structural integrity and safety.
