Abstract

This chapter delves into the environmental impact of cow manure, highlighting its significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and water contamination. It explores traditional and innovative methods to mitigate these issues, including solid-liquid separation, anaerobic digestion, and the novel approach of incorporating manure into clay bricks. The experimental study conducted in Bandung, Indonesia, investigates the properties of clay-manure baked bricks, revealing their potential as sustainable construction materials. The results showcase the environmental benefits of repurposing manure, such as reducing nutrient buildup and decreasing the demand for mined construction materials. However, the study also addresses the technical challenges, including the brittleness of the bricks and their water absorption properties. The findings offer valuable insights into the future design and selection of manure-based construction materials, paving the way for more sustainable and eco-friendly practices in waste management and construction.
