Abstract

This experimental study delves into the cyclic and post-cyclic monotonic behavior of soft clay under equivalent seismic loading, focusing on the dynamic behavior and shear strength of soft clay. The research employs bidirectional dynamic triaxial tests to simulate seismic loading, providing a detailed analysis of stress paths, hysteresis loops, and the impact of consolidation stress ratios and confining pressures. Key findings include the negative correlation between the cyclic stress ratio and the number of cycles to failure, the influence of anisotropic consolidation on soil stability, and the reduction in post-cyclic shear strength due to excess pore water pressure. The study also establishes a relationship between post-cyclic shear strength and dynamic excess pore water pressure, offering crucial insights for seismic design and soil stability assessment. The research highlights the significant deformation and densification of soft clay under seismic loading, providing a comprehensive understanding of its behavior under such conditions.
