Abstract

This chapter delves into the experimental study of a phase change energy storage-based airplane pre-conditioning air unit (PCA), designed to replace traditional Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) and mitigate environmental pollution at airports. The study focuses on the system's principle, prototype development, experimental protocol, and results, highlighting the performance under cold storage and combined cold release modes. Key findings include the system's ability to reduce PCM material temperature effectively, maintain stable supply air temperature, and achieve significant energy savings. The chapter also discusses the operational parameters and efficiency of the prototype, providing a comprehensive overview of its potential to enhance energy utilization and reduce peak-hour power consumption. The study concludes with the prototype's successful performance, meeting design requirements and demonstrating the viability of phase change energy storage technology in aviation air-conditioning systems.
