Expert retrieval based on local journals metadata to drive small-medium industries (SMI) collaboration for product innovation

The article explores the challenges and opportunities in accelerating innovation in the industrial sector through digital technology. It delves into the factors determining the innovation capability of SMI industries and the importance of collaboration with research organizations and competitors. The study proposes a method combining expert retrieval based on research portfolio content with topic maps based on user search keywords. Using TF-IDF-VSM and BM25 Okapi for expert retrieval and Text Rank with Text Network Analysis for topic maps, the research evaluates these methods' effectiveness. The prototype application developed shows promising results in facilitating collaboration between SMIs and academic researchers, highlighting the potential of local journal metadata in driving innovation.
