In order to meet the planned Euro 7 limits, further significant reductions in vehicle emissions under RDE conditions are needed. One important consideration is to resolve the conflicting objectives of low CO2 and NOx emissions. The electrification of powertrains is an essential means of achieving this, but it is not an adequate solution on its own.
