Abstract

The chapter explores the rapid integration of digital technologies into consumers' daily lives and their pivotal role in driving sustainable economic growth. It examines the shifting dynamics of buyer-seller relationships towards online platforms, emphasizing the importance of digital literacy in empowering consumers and fostering economic innovation. The study reveals a consistent upward trend in online shopping across EU countries from 2017 to 2021, with notable disparities among nations. Countries like Sweden and Denmark lead in online shopping adoption, while Romania and Bulgaria lag behind. The analysis also highlights the fluctuating development of digital skills, with some countries showing declines despite overall growth.
