Abstract

This chapter delves into the perceptions of software practitioners regarding the use of conceptual models in agile software development. It explores the utility of conceptual models in enhancing user stories, system design, and software architecture, despite their non-prescriptive nature in agile methodologies. The study identifies key challenges in agile software development that conceptual modeling could address, such as requirements management and technical debt. Through a survey based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the research examines the factors influencing the adoption of conceptual modeling, including perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and habit. The findings reveal a significant intention-behavior gap, where practitioners recognize the benefits of conceptual models but are reluctant to fully integrate them into agile workflows. Cultural factors are also analyzed, showing how different cultural contexts influence the perception and adoption of conceptual models. The chapter concludes with recommendations for promoting lightweight modeling practices and integrating them into agile toolchains to bridge the intention-behavior gap.
