Abstract

The article delves into the integration of virtual reality (VR) in astronomy education to promote spatial thinking among pre-service elementary teachers. It highlights the importance of spatial thinking in understanding astronomical phenomena and the potential of VR to enhance this understanding. The study focuses on the development and use of VR materials by pre-service teachers, emphasizing the need for teachers to have appropriate knowledge to effectively utilize these materials. The research assesses the TPCK characteristics of pre-service teachers, revealing varying levels of understanding and application of VR technology in astronomy lessons. The findings suggest that while some teams successfully created VR materials that reflect spatial thinking, others struggled with effectively integrating these materials into student-centered inquiry-based learning. The study concludes with practical implications for enhancing teachers' TPCK and promoting student-centered learning in astronomy education.
