Abstract

The article delves into the impact of reverse faulting on shallow foundations, highlighting the significant role of aluminum foam as a mitigation solution. Through numerical modeling using ABAQUS and validation with centrifuge tests, the study demonstrates how aluminum foam walls can absorb energy and divert fault rupture paths, significantly reducing foundation rotations. The research compares aluminum foam with other materials like soil bentonite and smart wall barriers, showcasing its superior performance in various fault scenarios. The findings underscore the potential of aluminum foam in enhancing the resilience of foundations against fault-induced deformations, offering a promising approach for future geotechnical applications.
