Abstract

The escalating issue of water contamination due to indiscriminate wastewater disposal has sparked global environmental concerns. This article investigates the extraction of silica and biochar from sugarcane bagasse, a neglected agricultural waste, to synthesize aerogels for dye removal from wastewater. The study highlights the effectiveness of adsorption as a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly method for wastewater treatment. Aerogels, known for their high porosity and low density, are synthesized using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and modified with silica and biochar to enhance their adsorption properties. The research demonstrates that PVA-Silica aerogels exhibit the highest removal efficiency for Congo red dye, a common industrial pollutant, under various experimental conditions. The article also explores the thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of the adsorption process, providing a detailed analysis of the factors influencing dye removal. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the reusability of the aerogels, making them a sustainable solution for wastewater treatment. The findings underscore the potential of utilizing agricultural waste for creating innovative and effective adsorbents, contributing to both environmental sustainability and waste management.
