Fabrication of new nanocomposites: (PVA-PEG-PVP) blend-zirconium oxide nanoparticles) for humidity sensors

Abstract

In this paper, preparation of new type for nanocomposite consists of (PVA-PEG-PVP) blend as a matrix and zirconium oxide nanoparticles as an additive. The SEM and optical microscope tests were investigated. The optical properties of nanocomposites were measured in range of wavelength 220–800 nm. The results show the optical absorbance of polymer blend is increased with the increase of zirconium oxide nanoparticles concentrations. The optical constants of (PVA-PEG-PVP) blend are increased and energy gap is decreased with the increase of zirconium oxide nanoparticles concentrations. The variation of electrical resistance for (PVA-PEG-PVP-ZrO2) nanocomposites with relative humidity is studied in range of humidity (40–90) RH.%. The results show that the (PVA-PEG-PVP-ZrO2) nanocomposites have higher sensing for relative humidity.
