Abstract

The chapter delves into the creation of superhydrophobic coatings on SS400 steel strips using stearic acid doped with zinc oxide, a method that promises enhanced corrosion resistance. The study meticulously evaluates the effects of etching time, stearic acid concentration, and the stearic acid to zinc oxide mole ratio on the coating's superhydrophobic properties. Using the chemical bath deposition method, the research optimizes these parameters through a multi-response performance index (MRPI) and Taguchi's method, ensuring a balance between water contact angle and water sliding angle. The results, validated through X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, confirm the successful deposition of stearic acid and zinc oxide, leading to a significant improvement in the coating's superhydrophobic characteristics. The chapter also addresses the environmental and cost benefits of the proposed technique, making it a compelling read for those interested in advanced coating technologies and corrosion prevention.
