The future of European mobility is, at least according to the EU parliament and commission, electric. This will not only have significant economic and social impacts but also poses great challenges to the generation of electricity and the electrical infrastructure. Germany, for example, is planning for the registration of 15 million electric vehicles by 2030 and the installation of a million charging stations. The electrical system is already hitting its limits. The fundamental political decision is forcing an entire sector, which previously managed quite well autonomously, into this volatile system - despite the knowledge that the networks will not be upgraded by then, storage is lacking, and viable alternatives exist that could be employed in parallel to e-mobility. The challenges, which are already huge, thus increase exponentially in critical regions. …
