Abstract

This chapter delves into the innovative use of waste glass in cold bitumen emulsion mixtures (CBEMs) to enhance their durability and fatigue life. The study evaluates the mechanical performance of CBEMs with varying percentages of waste glass as a partial replacement for fine aggregates. Key findings indicate that CBEMs with up to 60% waste glass content exhibit comparable performance to traditional hot mix asphalt (HMA), with higher percentages showing improved fatigue life. The research also explores the moisture susceptibility of these mixtures, demonstrating that while resistance to moisture damage decreases with increased waste glass content, the values remain comparable to HMA. The study's methodology involves the collection and characterization of materials, mix design, and extensive testing to determine the optimal waste glass composition for enhanced performance. The results suggest that incorporating waste glass into CBEMs not only improves mechanical properties but also offers significant environmental and economic benefits, making it a viable solution for sustainable pavement construction.
