Abstract

This chaptere delves into the field test and techno-economic analysis of a medium–deep ground source heat pump (GSHP) system in a low-energy office building located in Harbin, a severe cold region in northern China. The study focuses on the system's performance, economic viability, and the impact of borehole depth on heat extraction efficiency. Key findings include the system's ability to maintain stable indoor temperatures despite extreme outdoor conditions, with a coefficient of performance (COP) reaching up to 6.89. The research also highlights the significant improvement in heat extraction with increased borehole depth, demonstrating a strong linear correlation between depth and unit-length heat extraction. Additionally, the techno-economic analysis reveals that while the initial investment is substantial, the system's operating costs are acceptable, and subsidies can significantly improve its economic competitiveness. The chaptere concludes by emphasizing the potential of medium–deep GSHP systems as a viable solution for low-carbon heating in severe cold regions, provided there is policy support.
