Abstract

This study delves into the critical role of air infiltration in determining the energy efficiency of social housing units. By comparing conventional and enhanced housing models in a newly developed city near Cairo, it examines key parameters such as average air flow rate, air change rate, air permeability rate, and specific leakage rate. The research underscores the significant energy savings achievable through improved window and envelope construction, with enhanced models demonstrating up to 37% reduction in total annual electricity use. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of airtight building design and construction practices in achieving energy efficiency. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, architects, and building professionals engaged in urban planning and sustainable design practices, offering practical strategies to enhance building performance and occupant comfort.
