Abstract

The world of Finance seems to have turned into the kingdom of liars. Corporate hoodlums hide the truth from their investors, rogue traders conceal the size of their trading positions to internal and external control organs, fraudsters create Ponzi schemes by misdirecting investors.

Footnotes
1
Normally Ponzi schemes last a limited number of months before crashing. The major exception was Madoff who continued for more than a decade becoming the laregest financial fraud in history. His inexistent split-strike conversion strategy was simply impossible to actuate without attracting attention given its size in relation to the dimensions of the US derivatives market. See Markopolos (2010).

The bibliography on Madoff is vast. See Arvedlund (2009), Henriques (2011), Markopolos (2010) and Oppenheimer (2009).
