Abstract

The article presents a study on the effectiveness of a collaborative knowledge organizer-based digital game in middle school biology classes. It combines the first principles of instruction with concept mapping to enhance learning outcomes, reduce cognitive load, and increase motivation and collaborative awareness. The game was designed using RPG Maker MV and structured to include task modules, concept map modules, and learning process modules. The study involved three groups of students who used different learning methods and showed that the collaborative knowledge organizer-based digital game outperformed the other methods in all evaluated aspects. The findings highlight the potential of integrating educational strategies with game design to create more effective learning experiences.
