Abstract

This chapter delves into the flammability characteristics of silicone rubber-based biocomposites and bionanocomposites, highlighting their importance in ensuring safety and compliance with fire regulations. It explores the role of natural and synthetic fillers, such as montmorillonite, sepiolite, and silicon carbide whiskers, in enhancing flame retardancy and thermal stability. The text discusses various testing methods, including cone calorimetry, limiting oxygen index, and smoke density tests, to evaluate the fire resistance of these materials. Additionally, it presents the results of ablation tests and SEM micrographs, providing insights into the material's behavior under high-temperature conditions.
