This study delves into the significant impact of Land Use Land Cover (LULC) changes on flood risks in Idukki District, Kerala, India. By analyzing LULC changes over an 11-year period from 2013 to 2024, the study highlights how alterations in land cover, such as the conversion of forests into open land and settlements, have increased the likelihood of floods. The research employs geo-spatial techniques and multi-criteria decision analysis to create detailed flood plain and hazard maps, which are crucial for effective flood management. The study also examines the role of extreme rainfall events and their impact on surface runoff, providing valuable insights into the hydrological cycle.
