Abstract

Present study involves the thermofluidic characteristics of a two-dimensional impinging isothermal jet for various angles of inclination of impinging surface. The RANS (Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes) equations based on the standard k\(\varepsilon\) turbulence model has been used to predict the turbulent flow and heat transfer fields. The angle of inclination of the impinging surface is varied in the range \(\alpha = 0^\circ\)\(10^\circ\), the Reynolds number is considered to be Re = 11,500 and the impinging surface is subjected to the constant wall heat flux. According to the present computational results, the impingement point, a location where the jet strikes on the bottom wall after issuing from the nozzle, gradually shifts towards the right side of the jet centerline with the increase of angle of inclination. The skin friction coefficient decreases but the pressure coefficient increases with increasing the angle of inclination. The Nusselt number, a measure of rate of convective heat transfer, decreases drastically as the angle of inclination increases from \(\alpha = 0^\circ\) to \(\alpha = 10^\circ\).
