Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of Fog Computing in addressing the challenges posed by the increasing volume of data generated by IoT devices. It discusses the limitations of traditional cloud computing in handling real-time data processing and the need for a decentralized computing framework. The architecture of Fog Computing is explored, highlighting its three-tier structure that extends cloud services to the edge of the network. The benefits of Fog Computing, such as reduced latency, improved security, and efficient use of bandwidth, are elaborated upon. Additionally, the chapter reviews various applications of Fog Computing in industries like healthcare, smart cities, and manufacturing, showcasing its potential to revolutionize data processing in the IoT era. The discussion also covers the open issues and challenges in Fog Computing, including security concerns, resource management, and energy consumption, providing insights into future research directions.
