Food Practitioners’ Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Regarding Food Safety: A Case Study of Pasar Basah Sungai Siput

In the food and beverages business, the business entity must have adequate knowledge and proper attitudes toward food handling. This study focuses on knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) in food safety among food practitioners. While society is aware of food safety issues, they are lacking in knowledge regarding food safety. Other than that, society is indecisive on the good attitudes and practices that should be implied in food safety. Food practitioners’ inadequate knowledge of food safety poses a serious threat to food safety in the service establishment. Since food-related diseases can be serious, or even fatal, it is important to know and practice safe food-handling behaviors to help reduce the risk of getting sick from contaminated food. Food safety assures that food will not be contaminated or harm consumers if prepared accordingly. Findings show that knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) are significantly related to food safety. To increase food safety effectiveness, more intervention by nursing, education, and medical institute needs to be conducted. Future research should focus on food safety awareness among consumers in Malaysia. Other than that, the study also advises further research on food safety practices among small and medium enterprises in Malaysia.
