Abstract

This chapter delves into the complexity of urban systems and the need to understand interdependent components to enhance disaster resilience. It introduces forensic analysis as a method to investigate historical disasters, focusing on the FORIN and PERC approaches. The PARATUS project applies this forensic analysis to European and global case studies, aiming to develop quantifiable multi-hazard impact chain models. The chapter explores the intricacies of hazard and impact analysis, pre-disaster conditions, response and recovery, and resilience factors. By combining historical datasets and innovative technologies, the chapter offers a unique perspective on understanding and mitigating disaster risks.
