Abstract

The article delves into the creation, structure, and optical performance of AgCd/Ag5Cd8 phases in thin film form, emphasizing their significance in ultraviolet (UV) plasmonics. It begins by discussing the importance of UV light in various techniques and the need for materials with high plasmonic efficiency in this spectral region. The focus then shifts to the Ag-Cd system, known for its complex phase diagram and the potential of its intermetallic compounds for UV plasmonic applications. The research involves the preparation of thin films through co-evaporation and multilayer deposition methods, followed by a thorough analysis of their phase composition, structural properties, and optical characteristics. The study reveals that these thin films exhibit a mixture of intermetallic compounds and elemental silver, with significant differences in grain size and crystallinity depending on the deposition method. The optical properties, including reflectance spectra and complex permittivity, are extensively investigated, showing promising results for localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) excitation. The findings suggest that these Ag-Cd thin films could enhance the efficiency of LSPR in the UV region, potentially leading to advancements in UV light-emitting diodes and other optical applications. The article concludes by highlighting the potential of these materials for future research and practical applications in UV plasmonics.
