Abstract

The article delves into the challenges of circulating currents in modular multilevel converters (MMCs) and proposes a fractional order differential sign function sliding mode controller (FO-SMC) as a solution. By integrating fractional order theory, the FO-SMC controller enhances the system's dynamic response and reduces chattering, outperforming traditional controllers. The article provides a detailed analysis of the MMC topology, circulating current mechanisms, and the design and performance of the FO-SMC controller. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the FO-SMC in suppressing circulating currents and improving system stability, making it a compelling read for professionals in the field.
