Abstract

This chapter delves into the powerful technique of s-domain circuit analysis, which transforms time-domain signals and circuit elements into the complex frequency domain using the Laplace transform. By representing circuit elements by their impedances, the analysis simplifies the solution of differential equations describing the circuit's behavior into algebraic equations. The chapter covers key relationships in s-domain circuit analysis, including the Laplace transform of commonly used functions and fundamental theorems like the Initial Value Theorem and the Final Value Theorem. It also explores the frequency-domain representation of circuits, the calculation of transfer functions, and the analysis of stability, transient behavior, and steady-state sinusoidal response. Practical examples using MATLAB are provided to verify calculations, and the chapter includes detailed explanations of various circuit configurations, such as series RLC circuits and operational amplifier circuits. The chapter concludes with an exploration of frequency response plots and their interpretation, offering a comprehensive guide to understanding and applying s-domain circuit analysis in practical scenarios.
