Friction Resistance of PA Plastic Used to Make the Sickle Insert of an Internal Gear Pump

Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of plastics, particularly PA, in the construction of hydraulic system components, emphasizing their impact on weight reduction, noise minimization, and efficiency enhancement. The research focuses on the tribological properties of PA plastic in conjunction with steel, under mixed lubrication conditions, to determine optimal operational parameters for hydraulic pumps. Through meticulous tribological tests using a ball-on-disc system, the study reveals that the friction force between PA and steel remains remarkably low at rotational speeds below 1000 rpm, with the lowest friction observed in the 600-700 rpm range. This finding is pivotal for designing hydraulic systems that operate with minimal friction and maximal efficiency. The chapter also discusses the broader implications of these results for the development of hydraulic pumps and the potential for integrating biodegradable liquids, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient hydraulic technologies.
