Abstract

The article delves into the design and fabrication of friction stir channeling tools for optimizing material flow and channel strength in heat sink applications. It compares the performance of different tool designs, including those with and without clearance, and examines their impact on microstructural and mechanical properties. The study highlights the significance of tool shoulder contact with the workpiece, demonstrating how it influences heat generation, material flow, and ultimately, the mechanical properties of the fabricated channels. Notably, the research shows that channels produced with clearance exhibit improved mechanical properties compared to those without. The article also discusses the potential of using friction stir channels in copper for superior heat transfer performance, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field of thermal management and materials science.
