Fridays for Future zwischen ‚follow the science‘ und ‚system change‘: Entwicklung einer politischen Bewegung

Zusammenfassung

Seit den ersten Klima-Schulstreiks im August 2018 in Stockholm hat sich Fridays for Future zu einer weltweit aktiven und vernetzten Massenbewegung entwickelt. Über einen relativ kurzen Zeitraum hat sich die Bewegung dabei nicht nur im Sinne ihrer Organisations- und Kommunikationsformen gewandelt, sondern auch eine immer ausdifferenziertere politische Agenda formuliert. Während der Fokus anfangs auf Apellen zur Überparteilichkeit und Forderungen zur Umsetzung klimawissenschaftlicher Fakten in entsprechende Gesetze lag, wurden im weiteren Verlauf explizit gesellschaftspolitische Ziele wie Klimagerechtigkeit, die Unterstützung marginalisierter Gruppen oder die Kritik an kapitalistischen Wirkungslogiken mit den Forderungen der Bewegung verknüpft. Dieser Beitrag zeichnet die vielschichtige Entwicklung dieser Ausdifferenzierung und potenziellen Politisierung von Fridays for Future nach. Beantwortet werden dabei zwei zentrale Fragen: Erstens, inwieweit werden explizit politische Ziele mit den Forderungen von Fridays for Future verknüpft? Zweitens, welche Bedeutung ergibt sich daraus für das Verständnis von Fridays for Future als politische Bewegung? Zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen werden Erkenntnisse zur (Ent)politisierung der Klimapolitik mit konzeptionellen Überlegungen der sozialen Bewegungsforschung verknüpft. Dazu werden die Problem-, Ziel- und Prozess-Dimension von Politisierung erörtert und auf Fridays for Future angewandt. Eingebettet in eine breite politikwissenschaftliche Debatte beleuchtet das Kapitel die (Ent)politisierung der Klimaproteste in Deutschland. Mithilfe illustrativer Beispiele wird deutlich, dass sich die Bewegung dabei in einem Spannungsverhältnis zwischen fundamentaler Systemkritik und reformorientierten Ansätzen bewegt.
