After the cost of the driver, fuel consumption is the most important cost factor in the trucking business. In long-distance haulage, diesel consumption accounts for 30% of the costs calculated over the entire service life of the vehicle. Fig. 1.1 shows the cost breakdown of a European long-distance trucking company.
Metric example for a similar application: 3 % fuel reduction on a 150,000 km per year profile with a fuel consumption of 34 l/100 km (realistic for a 40 to truck) saves approx. 4000 kg CO
2 to our environment.
