Abstract

The chapter delves into the Canadian government's Greening Government Strategy, which aims to reduce GHG emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050. Despite the National Safety and Security exemption for military aviation, the Royal Canadian Air Force is proactively exploring decarbonization strategies. The study focuses on 8 Wing Trenton, Canada's largest air base, and its significant contribution to GHG emissions. The research aims to establish a baseline for energy usage and identify operational efficiencies to reduce emissions. It examines sustainable aviation fuels, new technology, and infrastructure improvements as potential solutions. The methodology involves a case study approach, questionnaires, interviews, and site visits to gather data and recommend practical changes. The findings promise to impact airframe ground operations, RCAF policy, and airfield layout at Defense air bases.
