Abstract

This chapter delves into the future vision and strategies of financial literacy in India, with a special focus on the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) initiatives and the National Strategy for Financial Education (NSFE) 2020–25. It highlights the importance of financial education in empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions, thereby contributing to the overall stability of the economy. The text explores various programs and campaigns initiated by the RBI, such as Financial Literacy Week and the 'RBI Kehta Hai' awareness campaign, which aim to educate the public on financial matters. Additionally, it discusses the role of the National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) in promoting financial literacy through initiatives like the Financial Education Programme for Adults (FEPA), Money Smart School Program (MSSP), Financial Education Training Program (FETP), and Financial Awareness and Consumer Training (FACT). The chapter also outlines the vision and strategies of the NSFE 2020–25, which emphasizes a multi-stakeholder approach to achieve financial well-being for all Indians. It concludes by emphasizing the need for widespread dissemination of these programs to benefit a broader population and the importance of evaluating the achievements of NSFE annually rather than after the five-year strategy period.
The chapters in this book are presented in the “International Conference on Legal and Economic Synergy for an Equitable Society, organised by the University Institute of Laws at Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, India on February 1st, 2024”.
