Abstract

The chapter 'GADN: GCN-Based Attentive Decay Network for Course Recommendation' introduces a novel approach to course recommendation that addresses three key challenges: prior knowledge consideration, learning process modeling, and explainability. Traditional methods often overlook these aspects, leading to less accurate and targeted recommendations. The proposed GADN model leverages a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) to capture high-order relationships and sequence information in user-course interactions. It also incorporates a monotonic attention decay mechanism to model the learning process, ensuring that recent courses are given more weight than distant ones. The model's effectiveness is demonstrated through experiments on real-world data, showing superior performance compared to existing methods. Additionally, the model provides explainable recommendations by visualizing attention weights, allowing users to select specific courses for review and consolidation.
